Cleansing is by far the most important step of your routine. It is essentially a waste of time to apply products to the skin if you are not cleansing properly. If you are still using wipes as a form of ‘cleansing’ you are simply spreading the dirt on the skin surface across the skin, never mind the effect on the environment.

How to cleanse

You should be cleansing your skin twice a day, AM & PM. In the morning you are removing any remanence of last night’s products as well as overnight build-up of oil.

Your evening cleanse should be a double cleanse. The first cleanser should remove makeup and the second step is to cleanse the skin itself to ensure the surface is clean and ready to apply your evening products.

What cleanser to use

The skincare market has millions of products out there for every single skin type, so the mission is really finding the right one to suit your skin, because it really isn’t one size fits all. Here is a little insight into what products we recommend.

Dry Skin

The cause of dry skin is your skin’s natural barrier lacks oils and lipids, so as well as using products that can help combat this a cleanser that is suited to dry skin will also help to decrease the dry texture of your skin.

Oily Skin

Oily Skin is usually associated with break out prone skin. The cleansers designed for oily skin are focussed on targeting greasy T-zones on the face as well as calm redness. The top recommended product from us is our Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Gel.

Sensitive Skin

With sensitive skin it may be difficult to find a good cleanser that doesn’t trigger itching and irritation. The best cleansers to look out for are gentle milk, lotion and cream-based cleansers. You may find that gel and foaming cleansers are best avoided as they often contain more aggressive ingredients.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is the most common skin type, with a slightly greasier T-zone with slightly more dry cheeks. So really this is the hardest job of all, trying to target different areas of the face with a different complexation! So the best cleansers to look out for are gel or ones with a light foam base that have gentle exfoliants to counteract the oiliness and ingredients such as ceramides or hyaluronic acid for hydration.
