Exosomes in Skincare: What Are They & What Are the Benefits?

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest developments in advanced skincare, you may have started hearing more about exosomes. They’re becoming an increasingly talked-about addition to professional skin treatments, particularly when it comes to supporting skin recovery, rejuvenation and overall skin quality.

But what exactly are exosomes, how do they work, and who are they suitable for?

At Cedar Therapy, we offer exosomes as part of our microneedling treatment, combining advanced skincare technology with a treatment designed to support healthier-looking, rejuvenated skin.

What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles naturally released by cells. Think of them as microscopic messengers: they carry signalling molecules such as proteins and other biological materials between cells, helping cells communicate with one another.

Within professional skincare, specially formulated exosome products are used topically alongside certain advanced treatments to support the skin’s natural renewal and recovery processes.

They have become particularly popular when paired with treatments such as microneedling, where the aim is to improve the appearance and overall quality of the skin while supporting its natural regenerative processes.

What Are the Benefits of Exosomes for the Skin?

Exosome-based skincare is particularly interesting because it focuses on supporting cellular communication and the skin’s natural renewal processes.

Depending on the formulation used and the individual skin concern, exosomes may help to support:

Skin recovery following professional treatments

Improved skin hydration

A brighter, more radiant complexion

Smoother-looking skin texture

The appearance of fine lines and signs of ageing

Overall skin quality and vitality

A calmer-looking complexion following treatment

Rather than dramatically changing the skin overnight, the aim is to support the processes involved in healthier, fresher and more rejuvenated-looking skin.

Exosomes & Microneedling: Why Are They Used Together?

At Cedar Therapy, we offer exosomes alongside our microneedling treatment.

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create controlled microchannels within the skin. This controlled process stimulates the skin’s natural repair response and is commonly used to improve concerns such as uneven texture, fine lines, enlarged pores and the appearance of certain types of scarring.

Adding an exosome formulation to the treatment allows us to combine microneedling with advanced topical skincare designed to support the skin during the post-treatment renewal process.

The result is a treatment focused not only on stimulating the skin, but also on supporting its recovery and helping clients achieve a healthy, refreshed and radiant appearance.

Who Can Have an Exosome Treatment?

Exosomes combined with microneedling may be suitable for a wide variety of clients and skin concerns.

We may recommend the treatment if you’re looking to improve:

  • Fine lines and visible signs of ageing
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Loss of radiance
  • Dehydrated-looking skin
  • The appearance of certain types of scarring
  • Overall skin quality

It’s also a great option for clients who are interested in taking their skincare routine to the next level with a more advanced professional treatment.

However, microneedling with exosomes won’t be suitable for everyone. Certain skin conditions, active infections, medications, pregnancy or other health considerations may mean the treatment needs to be postponed or isn’t appropriate.

This is why we always recommend a professional consultation before treatment. Your Cedar Therapy therapist can assess your skin, discuss your medical history and concerns, and determine whether the treatment is suitable for you.

What Can I Expect From the Treatment?

Your treatment will begin with a consultation and assessment of your skin.

During microneedling, a professional microneedling device is passed across the treatment area to create controlled microchannels in the skin. Your exosome formulation is then incorporated into the treatment according to the treatment protocol.

Immediately afterwards, the skin may appear pink or flushed and can feel slightly warm or sensitive. This is a normal response to microneedling and will usually settle as the skin begins its recovery process.

Your therapist will also talk you through the appropriate aftercare, including which skincare products to use and what to temporarily avoid following your appointment.

When Will I See Results?

Skincare is rarely about an overnight transformation.

Following microneedling with exosomes, you may begin to notice your complexion looking fresher and more radiant as your skin settles. Improvements in skin texture and overall skin quality may continue to develop over the following weeks as the skin goes through its natural renewal cycle.

The number and frequency of treatments we recommend will depend on your individual skin, concerns and goals.

Are Exosomes the Next Generation of Skincare?

Exosomes are an exciting area within advanced professional skincare and reflect a wider movement towards treatments that work alongside the skin’s own biological processes.

For us, however, the latest treatment isn’t automatically the right treatment.

At Cedar Therapy, our approach is always centred around your skin. We combine professional expertise, advanced treatments and carefully selected skincare to create a treatment plan that’s appropriate for your individual concerns and goals.
